Shelves are great for adding more storage space to your room. Different shelves have different weight capacities; many shelves are just designed for light items like decorations and maybe a few books. If you want to store heavy equipment on your shelves, you will need ones that can take a large amount of weight.
Heavy duty shelves usually are made from strong, thick materials that are able to hold a massive amount of weight. Usually there are multiple brackets placed under each shelf to add extra support. One difference between the two is shopping mall shelves are made to look much more attractive than industrial shelves. Industrial shelves are purely meant for functional purposes but shelves in the store have to look good as well. Many times, they use the same materials except the stores may use a different shape of metal and paint it a more suitable color.
Many garages also require shelving that can hold a lot of weight. Many types of equipment kept in garages are considerably heavy so they will need a shelf that can take the weight. Having a set of shelves in the garage is also a great way to keep the area tidy. Gardening and painting equipment can also be stored there, along with a host of other tools. Garage shelving should also be securely fastened down to prevent it tipping over if the weight is not properly distributed. Some wood heavy duty shelves will need metal for part of the frame, but these can be painted to make them look attractive. Optimally, try to find a shelf that is made entirely out of thick wood, most solid woods will be able to take a large amount of weight. The posts for the shelf can be made from large pieces of wood and the shelves can be secured either with metal brackets or 2X4 blocks of wood. Ply board tends to bend and warp under heavy weights so it should not be used for a heavy weight shelf. Instead, use a thicker wood. Thicker does not necessarily mean heavier as there are many woods that are surprisingly light.
The easiest way to get a shelf set is to buy a kit. Many department stores and hardware stores supply shelving kits that can be assembled easily. All the pieces have been precut and packaged and all you will need to do is take the box home and assemble it. Usually the kit will contain a set of instructions of how to do this. With some shops, it is part of the service for staff to help assemble the shelf for you, although you may need to pay a small fee for this. This may prove to be simpler than trying to assemble the shelf yourself, especially if the shelf kit contains heavy pieces.
