Purchasing a Cabinet Glass for the Kitchen or Living Room – Tips and Options

Posted by on Tuesday, 31 August, 2010

What particular kind of cabinet glass you purchase for either the living room or the kitchen would depend on a number of factors, such as your budget, the size of the room, and what style of decor you want the room to have. Prices vary a lot depending on what particular type of cabinet you want to buy, what brand name it is, and where it is sold.

Glass Kitchen Cabinets and Cabinet Doors:

Most kitchen cabinet doors are not made from glass; you would need to take down the existing cabinet doors and install glass ones. Glass kitchen cabinet doors can add a touch of class and elegance to the kitchen, as long as the doors match well with the existing kitchen decor.

Many people also opt to purchase an additional cabinet, such as a spice rack, that has a glass door. A spice rack can be very useful if you enjoy cooking at home a lot and need a convenient place to keep your spices organized. One good cabinet of this nature is the Recessed Wall Mounted Kitchen Spice Rack Cabinet Holder selling at Amazon.com. This particular cabinet comes in different sizes; smaller ones cost a bit over $100 while larger ones cost close to $200. You can purchase this cabinet unfinished, with enamel finish or stain finish. The cabinet itself is made from high quality pine-wood and has a frosted glass door.

Many people who find that they need a bit more counter top and/or cabinet space opt to purchase a kitchen hutch. These come with two cupboards underneath and two above; there is a small table space that is perfect for a microwave and coffee machine. You can purchase a white kitchen cabinet with glass door hutch for between $125 – $200 via online retailers such as Stacks and Stacks, ABC Home; these can also be found at your local Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club. If you prefer a black one, then online retailer CSN Stores sells a few of these for around $370 each.

If you are adding glass doors onto existing kitchen cupboards, then there are some very nice options to choose from for your home. If you have a large budget and want something that is not only very elegant but also unique, then you can order custom-made stained glass cabinet doors from www.artfire.com. You can chose what particular design or picture you want the door to have and what colors it should be done in. These kitchen cabinet doors, while expensive, are truly a work of art.

Plain glass doors for your kitchen cabinets cost a lot less than the above-mentioned option. In many cases you would need to have these custom made to ensure that they not only fit your cabinet but also match well. Prices depend on what particular style you want, the size of your cabinets and how many cabinets you have. One website with a number of options and reasonable prices is www.cabinetnow.com.

Display Cabinet Glass:

A glass display cabinet can be a beautiful addition to your living room decor. If you have a very large living room, then a good-looking display cabinet will help the room not to look ‘bare’ and empty.

One thing to keep in mind when purchasing a display cabinet is what items will be displayed. Some are perfect for collector’s items such as shot glasses, collectible figurines and/or other curios. Some are simply nice looking cabinets with glass doors, where knick-knacks and other decorative items can be displayed. Choose one that suits your needs, the existing decor of the room, and your budget.

If you have a limited budget, a number of glass display cabinets that cost $500 or less to choose from. Many cost several thousands of dollars; while these are beautiful and good looking, it is not necessary to purchase something this expensive in order to have a good-looking display cabinet for your living room.

Display cabinets can be easily purchased online. Online retailers often offer better prices than regular stores; you can see a large variety at once and compare prices with just a click of the mouse. In fact, all large supermarket and department stores have an online retail site and sometimes have items available to order online that cannot be purchased at the store itself.

However, if you are unsure of what particular display cabinet you want, it is often better to buy it from a regular store. You can see the item on display instead of having to go by a thumbnail picture of the display cabinet. You can also easily return the item and get a refund, if you find that the particular cabinet is not suitable for your home. If you want to purchase a cabinet glass at a regular store, then Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Lowe’s are all good places to look.

A glass display unit is both beautiful and artistic. Glass structures can be used to create a variety of effects. Some are used to create modern and sophisticated looks, while others can be used for symmetrical illusion. Glass is also environmentally friendly and unlike most plastics, it is easily recyclable and can be used again to create another structure.

A glass display cabinet is a great way to show off your valuables or collections. They may also serve a variety of other purposes. They could showcase medals and awards, or hold memories of loved ones or a collection of souvenirs from past travels. Whatever you choose to put in it, glass display cabinets will make those items stand out.
Glass displaying furniture can be suited for many different places in the home. The living room would be one the optimum places to have a glass display cases so you can showcase your prized possessions. However, glass can be used in many other places as well, in bathrooms having a glass shelf may be good for holding accessories. Even in the kitchen, glass can be used in the form of counter tops and tables.

Fingerprints are a common occurrence on glass display equipment so be sure to have some cleaning materials nearby. Dirt also tends to show more easily on glass so you will have to clean it more often than other display surfaces. When cleaning glass displays, make sure that you do not use a cloth that can track lint and try not to use soapy water. The best cleaning solution for glass is newspapers and Windex. Rub the newspaper in a circular motion to prevent streaking marks.

A glass display counter is useful and looks good as well. When purchasing a glass counter you will need to find one made from strong glass that is resistant to cracking. This type of glass will usually go through a treatment process and have a ‘shatter resistant’ stamp on it. Purchasing scratch resistant glass may also be good to avoid scratches when placing things on your display counter. Regardless of how strong your glass is you should still be careful when placing items on it. Forceful use can cause even the strongest of glass to chip or scratch so exercise caution.

A shot glass display is an interesting collection display. The size of your cabinet will depend on how many shot glasses you have collected. It’s fairly simple to make a shot glass cabinet, what you’ll need is a saw, plywood, solid wood, a hammer, glue, pliers, measuring tape and sand paper. To begin you cut the solid wood into strips and lightly sand the edges. Next you should draw the self pattern on the plywood so you can cut it out easily, make sure that each shelf is high enough to fit the shot glass. Create the frame out of strips of solid wood and use the ply board to create the back of the shelf. You may want to add a set of glass doors for the shelf as well. Once the shelf has been made, be sure to fasten it securely to the wall and touch up any rough areas with sand paper.

A glass display dome can be a beautiful display structure to show off art pieces, collections, or memorabilia. The items are protected by a glass dome structure that is set on top of the base. Glass domes were used in the mid 19th century for holding specimen domes. The items need to make medications were stored in glass container in the apothecary’s work area. Many museums contain glass domes that house insects and other odd specimens. The dome structure has preserved other rare items as well keeping them from being damaged.

Today the glass dome is also used as a means of protection. The glass structure allows valuables to be seen by others while at the same time keeping them from touching them. The natural oil from people’s hands can negatively affect many collectable and artwork pieces so a glass dome will protect them from that. The base of the dome is also quite heavy which helps to prevent the dome from being tipped over easily.

There are a few different types of glass displaying domes, most come in either round, rectangular, or oval shapes. They can come in different sizes between a couple inches high all the way up to a few feet tall. The base of the dome is about is about half an inch tall and the circumference is about an inch wider than the dome. Some domes are bell shaped and others are in the shape of characters or a cloche. A cloche is a little like a knob on the top of the glass piece. Glass domes can be found at jewelers, collection stores, and many other places.

Using Glass Cabinets at Your Trade Show Display

Posted by on Thursday, 8 April, 2010

If you want to set up an artistic looking trade show booth, then using glass cabinets is the way to go. While there are wooden shelving units of all kinds and sizes and wire shelving units, they can not really compare to a nice looking glass display cabinet. If you get the right kind and the right size, it is sure to highlight your booth and attract potential customers. You will also want to make sure that you get one that is not only made out of glass as these are very delicate and breakable. Getting a glass cabinet that is made with both glass and a nice wood is a good option for trade show displays, as these are not quite as delicate and can stand the wear and tear of being moved around and touched by a lot of people.

It is very important, even before you choose what kind of glass display cabinet you want, to measure the booth area to see what size you will need. This is particularly important if you will be ordering your display cabinet from an online retailer, as often they will not refund you if you buy something that is the wrong size. Plan your booth well ahead of time, deciding on where the display cabinet or cabinets will be, if you will have a table, pop up display, or television set up in your booth. Then measure the area you want to set up your glass cabinet in so that you know what size you should buy.

If you have a limited amount of space then getting a glass curio cabinet is a good idea. Glass curio cabinets are a lot smaller than regular cabinets and are good for smaller trade show booths. You can get some very artistic ones from Chintaly in different styles, such as oval shaped, round, curved and flair but it should be noted that these are very expensive, costing between $800 – $900 per shelf. Unless you have a very large budget for your trade show display then you will most likely want to get something that is more cost efficient.

You can get curio cabinets that are round, hexagonal in shape, or square. All of these options are nice looking and will serve your booth well. If you are not quite sure which one would be the best for your booth then you should check a few catalogues so that you get a better idea of the different styles that are available as well as the prices. If you are not buying from a furniture company, then make sure to calculate the costs of shipping the curio cabinet or cabinets as well, unless you find a retailer that will include free shipping in with the purchase.

If you are looking for a larger display cabinet then there are quite a few out there. They are rectangular and often are made with wood as well. Some have darker colored wood, some lighter. You will have to see what color goes best with your display set up. As was mentioned above, looking at a catalogue or two is a good way to see what is out there and what design will best compliment your booth.

There are also companies that rent trade show equipment and you can research the possibility of renting the shelves or cabinets that you need. Renting the display items that you need has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that it will definitely cost you less to rent it than to buy. It is much better to rent nice looking display shelves than it is to buy something that is not as high quality. After all, the reason you are at the trade show in the first place is to highlight your company in the best way possible; having cheap looking shelves, no matter what they are made from, will detract from that and give your potential customers a poor opinion of your company. In addition, renting the shelves or display cabinets that you need will allow you to use different shelves and cabinets at different displays, as needed.

The disadvantages of renting trade show displays is that it will cost you more in the long run than it would to buy your own display shelves. Also, you run the risk of not being able to rent the exact type of cabinet or display shelf that you had in mind and therefore have to settle for something that is less than the best. This, however, can be avoided by planning your booth well ahead of time. Know what you want and make sure to rent your display shelves well in advance so that you will have what you need to make your booth all that it needs to be.

A display cabinet would be wonderful for these types of contents. Your guests would marvel at the awards like it was a museum and be impressed by such a stunning addition to the household furniture.

Wall mounted cases are offered but most people buy floor-standing cases. A shot glass display cabinet like any other cabinet can easily be accompanied by installed lights that electrify the contents on a quantum scale. Now you do not need to turn on room lights to light up the contents. In addition, room lights are not preferable since the top of the display cabinet is often going to block a lot of the light from glittering up the contents. This forces the viewer to oppose the cabinet by standing only inches away and practically squinting their eyes to see what is in side. Do not even plan on your guest to read any lettering that way. However, interior lights change all that, they change the entire ball game.

The cabinets that really want to sparkle will be ordered with switchable track lighting. Imagine your shot glass cabinets illuminating inside that cherry oak stained cabinet, it would dazzle anyone, and the cabinet would just electrify the entire room. Even if the cabinet were empty, that would be startling and amazing to witness.

A prospective client can order the type of cabinet and what color stain and what type of wood before they spend any money. They can dress it up on the website and see it almost as if it was there in front of them. Some websites are more effective than others and not every carpenter has a website but the large cabinet makers do.

Cabinets with doors are excellent for trophies just in case someone does not actually believe you or your daughter won that award. Not all cabinets are custom made. Some people do not have the time or the money. They can easily walk in and walk out with a display cabinet that will contribute nicely to their dining or living room. A cabinet can be in a bedroom as well but glass cabinets are usually to protect or hold contents you want others to see so that is unlikely. Moreover, this is where a curio cabinet comes into play. They are referred to as a wooden art center or showcase and they do not just come in one size.

Modern day cabinet makers may have gone high tech but they want you to believe they are still the same old master craftsmen shaping wood into gorgeous wooden sculptures. It does not matter if they are using a shop smith or just a jig saw, carpentry is still a hands-on business. DVD’s may be a thing of the past but display cabinets are certainly not. There are not too many things that smell better than freshly stained wood sitting in your living room.

Put Your Unique Style on Display with a Glass Cabinet

Furnishing a home can be done in hundreds of different ways. If may be modern, bohemian chic, cozy, colorful, classic, or any number of other aesthetics. Regardless of what style the home is furnished in, the fact remains that any house requires a minimum amount of furniture in order to be made a home. Whether you are furnishing on a budget, or you have a large amount to allot to this specific purpose, your home decoration and furnishings should reveal something about your style and personality. Incorporating a glass cabinet into your home decor is an ideal way to let your personality shine through.

Glass cabinets can be applied to any number of rooms and purposes within a home. They come in a wide variety of styles, and are useful for storage and display in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and even bathroom. Their glass properties enclose and house their contents, while not entirely hiding them from view, creating the impression of depth, and offering visitors an intimate insight into your personal world.

Glass cabinet furniture is available in multiple designs, styles, and aesthetics. It may be sleek and modern, with a chrome frame, or hearken back to earlier days, with a classic and sturdy wooden frame. Some cabinetry will support larger amounts of weight and volume, such as books and other media, while glass display cabinets will likely be intended to show off specific and special items, such as family heirlooms, statuettes, or other delicate collectibles, which will not put excessive weight on the shelves. As such, a glass cabinet may be utilitarian in nature, or may be used as an accent or decorative piece within the larger design scheme.

Glass kitchen cabinets are an excellent example of utilitarian cabinets that are also attractive and that offer a specific appeal to any kitchen space. Most often, kitchen spaces will feature sturdy wood or particle board frames with glass kitchen cabinet doors, allowing the cabinets to hold high volumes of dinnerware, glassware, or pantry items, while still featuring the unique features that glass cabinetry offers, such as depth and visual impact.

In a living or dining room area, you may choose to incorporate glass display cabinets in the overall design. For a modern or classic look that is versatile and that does not take up excessive room, an excellent option is the glass curio cabinet. The curio cabinet is a furniture item that is specifically designed to be an accent piece. Tall and slender in appearance, it works especially well in corners or in tight spots that need filling. This type of cabinet can be virtually transparent if you choose to have not only glass cabinet doors, but also glass shelves and a glass frame. For sturdiness that is still modern, choose a thin but durable metal in silver chrome or stainless steel, in order to create the general frame. For a more heavy and traditional look, choose a frame in a dark polished wood that matches the hues of the dining table or other furnishings.

Additional uses for glass cabinetry may include, but are not limited to, bookshelves, media shelves, and bathroom shelves. As long as you select the frame according to the amount of weight that you intend to impose upon it, glass cabinetry and accessories can work virtually anywhere in your home, and are sure to be a special design feature among guests.

Regardless of what type of cabinetry you choose to furnish your home with, it is extremely important to consider safety and security factors. For instance, a tall cabinet that is intended to lean against or be supported by a wall should always be attached, from the top, to said wall. Attaching the cabinet to the wall will ensure that, should any imbalance ever occur, the cabinet would remain firmly in place, and not topple, causing potential damage or injury. Frequently, tall cabinets of this style have a wall attachment included in their hardware, along with screws. Ensure that you are using the appropriate type of screws or fixtures for the material of the wall. For instance, use drywall screws on drywall, to ensure that the fixture will be secure and stay in place.

For additional style and design features that will reveal your personal aesthetic and ensure that your home’s design is entirely unique, you may choose to customize the less obvious aspects of your cabinetry. Glass cabinet knobs are an ideal way of customizing your glass cabinetry. They may be subtle or loud, humorous or unimposing, depending upon your personal preference. Frequently, cabinet knobs, handles, and pulls can be purchased separately or in packages at the same location where you found your furniture, or at any hardware store. Simply ensure that the knobs that you select will attach properly to your cabinets, and that they are the appropriate size and weight, then you can begin to have fun while getting creative with your home decor.

Choosing A Display Cabinet Style For Your Home

Posted by on Monday, 15 February, 2010

There are many things people collect, from teapots and horses, to collector plates and beanie babies. No matter what your weakness is when it comes to collecting things, you need a great way to display them that will attract attention and go well with the decor already in your home. Choosing a display cabinet to suit your decor needs is a major decision and the first thing you should decide on is the style you need.

When looking at these types of cabinet for your home, there are literally tons of styles to choose from. You will need to decide if you want a full wooden cabinet, or if you would prefer the look of solid glass. You will also need to decide whether or not you want your cabinet to be lit, as many of these cabinets come with a lighting option if you are willing to pay more for it.

The Many Different Styles

One of the most popular options for display cabinets is the corner display cabinet. This is because it takes up minimal space, comes in a wide variety of styles, can be lit or unlit, and if you get a floor to ceiling model, you will not have to worry about running out of room or your cabinet possibly taking up too much space. Corner display cabinets also come in many different finishes, from oak and teak to cherry and walnut. Your personal preference for the color of wood is your only limiting factor here.

If a corner cabinet does not suit your needs, then you might want to consider an antique display cabinet. Cabinets designed from the 1700s all the way up to the early 1900s are popular all across the country, especially in Victorian homes. The only problem with looking at antique curio cabinets is the fact that you will be paying quite a chunk of money for any piece you are looking at. This also gives rise to another problem, which is determining whether or not the piece is truly an antique. It can be hard to tell with all of the forgeries on the market, so purchasing an antique piece from a yard sale or garage sale might seem lucrative, but if you are truly looking for an antique piece, you will need to know how to spot the differences.

Aside from knowing exactly what to look for in an antique piece, you will also need to know what is a bargain, and what is not. If you truly love a piece and must have it, there is no price to small to pay, but if you are looking to get a great antique cabinet without paying too much, you will need to shop around. The best way to do this is to compare prices at several antique shops in your area. While no two antique pieces are the same, you should be able to ball park a price so you know what you can expect to spend on the cabinet of your dreams.

Styles For the Space Conscious

If you live in a smaller home or apartment, you may be wondering what display cabinet options you have without sacrificing more space in your already crowded home. The corner wall display cabinet is always an option, but a more space economical choice is the wall display cabinet.

This type of display cabinet can be hung on the wall similar to a picture frame. While they are not very large, they are capable of displaying your collection in great fashion, as they can hang over the couch or fireplace, which is something you can not achieve with any other type of cabinet. They also come in a wide variety of wooden finishes, though this type of cabinet is usually not featured in solid glass, nor are they lit. However, if you want to light them yourself, it is a great do-it-yourself project which you can undertake for minimal cost.

The Final Cost

The cost of any cabinet you decide on really depends on the style. Of course you should expect to pay more for any antique cabinet you like, but for a cheap corner display cabinet, it should not cost you more than a few hundred dollars. Even cheaper still are the wall hanging style cabinets which could be priced as low as $100, depending on the shop you are purchasing from.

If you are not keen on paying full price for any type of display cabinet for your home, then you might want to consider the do-it-yourself option. You can find an unfinished piece at cost which is priced much less than a finished piece. Finishing it yourself will be cheaper, and you will be able to obtain the exact look you want, with the many different kinds of finishes available on the market.

All About The Glass Display Cabinet

Have you ever won a trophy? Where did you put it? Did you find a place to put that would not allow it to be smothered in dust in about a week? Well, if you did, you beat me. If I had a glass display case I would have avoided having dusty trophies but of course I would have had less space in my room. A glass display cabinet is a marvelous storage chamber for all sorts of items. Most people have some form of collectibles that would be suited for a glass wall display cabinet.

There are a few different kinds of these cases. Most have a closed back and base that comes with different types of wood. The three most popular persuasions are black, walnut or oak. Some cases have glass 360 degrees around for full view from any angle out. This would be quite pleasing for a shot glass display cabinet.

There are glass display cabinets that have power running to them for a soft background lighting affect. These are outstanding for your sports paraphernalia since they sparkle with such a gorgeous surrounding. The stain can be of either oak or cherry finish with see through glass or a back panel mounting with running down the backside. This can often make the contents of the glass case appear much more special and valuable than they actually are.

Glass display cabinets are excellent for housing business accommodation or military rewards. They can be locked to keep younger ones out or other people out. The doors are not always normal doors; you can have sliding glass doors made for your display cabinet with glass. The sliding glass door display cabinets usually have four selections for back panels that are appropriate for almost any form of presentation.

It is not always about the glass or door or even lighting. The frame matters too. Some of these frames are prize worthy in their own right. The corner links are shaped like a hexagon with slanted framing that is unified with viewing form three sides. The glass is specially made, it is tempered so it makes the contents of the case that much more alluring. Glass display cabinets UK are not that much different than the ones made in the US. In fact, the differences are unnoticeable.

Glass curio wooden cabinets are detected since their base is usually a bronze or satin made with anodized and aluminum. Their back is white laminate or could be obtained with nine hooks that are Velcro and with looping back pieces. What all this means is that the wall and floor cabinets that ring the interior can all act in unison and be on a level playing field.

The cheapest kind that could be bought is the glass display cabinet ikea. If there is one that is less expensive that would be hard to detect. If you are a college student or a young graduate and you just need some shelving or a cabinet that is decent looking but costs low, this is the probably the shrewdest purchase you can make. It will not dazzle anyone; it will not attract any of your friends from across town to look at but it is presentable if you have company over for other reasons. It is also pleasing to your own eye and will satisfy the job as your young career blossoms.

A used glass display cabinet would even be pricey if it was an oak veneer. This spectacular glass cabinet, unlike the cheap one just mentioned, this is the one that will appeal to your friends and made their mouth water when looking at it in the dining or living room. The wooden bottom stands a foot off of the floor and can be bought in carmel or autumn oak varnish. This shine is more contemporary in fashion. Back to the Velcro again, this hook device combined with this clever idea will allow the material to mount quite easily and will perpetuate a glorious sparkle in the interior of the store, art room and so forth.

We just described a massive and probably pricey display cabinet. For smaller rooms or for the home, a small glass display cabinet can be bought for probably about half the price. It can be mounted on the wall. This is ideal for areas where the entire wall is not available. How about if you have a couch against the wall? How about if you have a gorgeous Arizona Indian rock table that covers the base and is half way up the wall? You could also consider putting this above the toilet. This could compliment an already astonishing bathroom. It does not matter what type of cabinet you desire, someone can probably make it for you. Hiring a private contractor will cost you a little more perhaps but then you have accountability and a product that you know is uniquely yours. A display cabinet of this caliber will resonate across the room it is in and increase the fascination and charm of everything else.

Suggested Methods for Highlighting Display Cabinets

Posted by on Monday, 15 February, 2010

The students at a college or university might pay scant attention to any display cabinets, especially if they pass them almost everyday. However, when an institution of higher learning anticipates the arrival of alumni or other guests, then it might well want to perfect the contents of its standing or wall display cabinets.

Of course, the most well planned cabinet could well escape the notice of visiting alumni, if it is not in a well lighted and prominent location. Still, authorities at an institution might hesitate to move a darkly lighted antique display cabinet. They could then find it necessary to highlight that case.

That was the situation that faced one of the Seven Sisters’ colleges, back some thirty five years ago. That school wanted to put on display some items that related to its long history. In order to make sure that visitors did not fail to see the elaborate display, the school authorities arranged for a couple of the female students to don a 19th Century costume. Those students then stood adjacent to one of the designated antique display cabinets.

The same weekend that this all female institution placed costumed students next to assigned cabinets, it also arranged for the placement of clearly printed signs in the more than one glass display cabinet. That action underscores the importance of having bold and easily read signs in as many glass display cabinets as possible.

The faculty members who aided the above mentioned effort were largely members of the college’s biology department. Today, that department could easily put together a great display, one that could fill a large corner display cabinet. It could share with visitors the various ways that biology students are undertaking field work, in order to study various environmental issues.

Of course, if that corner case fell at the end of a long hall, it might well get examined by only the most ambitious of the college’s visitors. For that reason, this college might again want to ask students to highlight a display, by wearing a costume. On a special weekend, the college could ask one or more students to don the sort of attire that is used for collecting water samples from rivers, lakes and ponds.

Members of the art department at a college or university would have colorful items to put in a display case. Visitors might also like to learn about the process used for creation of those colorful items. Still, any effort to display examples of that process could go unnoticed, if they lacked the “pizzazz” of the final product. For that reason, the art department might schedule a time for putting next to the appropriate case, students dressed in an artist or sculptor’s clothes.

The PR department at any institution of higher learning should contact the librarian prior to any “big weekend.” On that weekend, the library display case ought to have interesting and captivating material. The display cabinet in the library would be a good place to show off items relating to one or more extracurricular activities. That cabinet could, for example, contain copies of the campus paper.

At PR department at a faith based institution should make certain that any case in the campus worship center has a well planned and noticeable display, on any weekend when visitors are expected. It would be good to have both examples of students’ thoughts on moral issues, as well as examples of students putting into action the various concepts of their faith.

The gymnasium at a college or university normally has some trophies in a glass or oak display cabinet. The people who oversee the items in that cabinet might want to highlight the trophies anytime that large numbers of guests are on campus. They might think about having uniformed members of one or more sports teams standing next to the trophy filled display case.

Actually, by working with faculty and a photographer, the PR department at a college or university should manage to arrange for a captivation display in a prominent case outside of every department office. That would include the offices of the mathematics department.

Unless the reader doubts the ability of anyone to design a captivating display for a mathematics department, then that reader needs to learn about a field trip once taken by a Calculus III class. The class professor wanted her female students to see the various land formations that can be “described” using the equations presented in a Calculus III textbook.

She took her students outside in February, when snow was on the ground. She pointed a wooden stick into a pile of snow, and asked for an equation that could describe the slope of that snow pile. If a photographer had captured that moment on film, it would have made a great addition to a display case.

This article will not attempt to predict the nature of display cabinets in the near or distant future. This article can not, however, play down the importance of highlighting any well planned cabinet.

This article has suggested a couple ways that an institution of higher learning could highlight the contents of any case that holds a well planned display. The reader should use those suggestions as a way to get thinking seriously about what might help draw attention to any items currently on display in one or more of the institution’s large or small cases.
