Standard types of Vinyl Banners Used for Promotional Purposes

Posted by on Saturday, 3 July, 2010

Banners can be made from a variety of different material; however, banners made from vinyl are usually the strongest and longest lasting. Vinyl is an extremely durable material that will stand up to adverse weather conditions if used outside and that is also waterproof. While not all banners are made from vinyl, most that are made for long-term use are. There are many different types of vinyl banners, however, with each being suited to a specific location or use. When ordering your banner you will be able to specify which custom vinyl banners you are interested in.

The standard vinyl banner is suited for both indoor and outdoor use, as it is weather and water resistant. However, it is more commonly used either indoors or at sheltered outdoor locations mainly because it is not so practical to use outdoors in windy areas. It is possible to cut slots in the vinyl so that the wind can pass through but this detracts from the overall appearance of the banner and as such is usually not the first choice when it comes to outdoor use. Vinyl banner printing is usually digital full color printing, meaning that you are able to custom design exactly what you want to appear on it. You can custom design the logo, image and text that you want printed on it and choose any color you want for the text.

If you want to use your banner in both indoor and outdoor locations, you may be interested in having it made with scrim vinyl. This type of material is well known for being extremely durable and able to withstand all kinds of outdoor weather conditions ranging from heavy rain to bright sunlight. It is also very opaque, again making it ideal to use in sunny outdoor locations as light will not readily pass through and thus the image remains very easy to see.

You can also use banners made with matte vinyl outdoors. While not quite as durable as other types of vinyl, it is great to put up in areas where glare may prevent people from being able to clearly see the image on it. You are also able to see the images and text from wide angles, making it perfect for areas such as outdoor stadiums where there is some protection from harsh weather conditions but where people will be looking at it from all angles.

If you are planning on printing on both sides of the banner, you may need to opt for using blackout vinyl. With this type of material, a middle layer of blackout vinyl is used in-between two layers of regular vinyl. This effectively stops the image from one side showing through onto the other side and is especially useful when it will be erected where there are bright lights shining from one direction, such as in areas where bright floodlights will be used or where sunlight would shine directly down onto it.

Mesh vinyl is a great choice for outdoor vinyl banners as well. This is very similar to the standard type of vinyl with one small, but important difference. Tiny holes are punched into the vinyl so that both wind and light can pass through. Even though there are tiny holes, it does not impair the view of the image on the banner at all. It is very useful for outdoor situations where the banner will not be backed by any solid backing, such as the side of a building. For example, it is often used on open mesh fences. Putting up a regular banner on a fence, where the wind could blow through the fence may result in it actually blowing off and causing danger, depending on the velocity of the wind or it could even cause the fence itself to fall down if the wind was strong enough.

Finally, if you are interested in sticking your banner to a vehicle or onto large display boards you could use adhesive vinyl. This is especially made with adhesive glue on the back so that it can be attached to any smooth surface.

Most of these options are readily available at banner printing depots online. These sites make it very easy for you to make your order online and then upload any graphics or text you want included on the banner. If you need a custom vinyl banner, you can usually specify any particulars. You can also select different options to see which is the most cost effective. That is particularly helpful if you are interested in purchasing cheap vinyl banners as you can choose different options until you come up with something that will both suit your needs and your budget.

Banners are commonly used for promotional purposes, trade fairs and to display information. Thankfully, there is a large range that you can choose from and they are very easy to order and have custom made. Shipping is also usually fairly inexpensive as vinyl banners are fairly lightweight.

Vinyl Banner Printing Choice Defined

Posted by on Sunday, 14 February, 2010

Vinyl banner printing is one of the most popular ways to advertise an outdoor event, grand opening, or special function for church, school, and business.  The abundance of printed vinyl banners advertising everything imaginable is a testament to how effective they are at getting a message to the passerby, and enduring through all kinds of weather.

Types of Banners

These days, when you need astounding color that grabs people’s attention, full-color printing with the QS-XLT is the machine preferred by top banner printing companies.  Printed vinyl banners on the QS-XLT will show well indoors and out.  The quality of the high resolution printing process, on a heavy vinyl fabric creates vivid images and lettering.  The inks used are resistant to ultraviolet rays from the sun, and will hold up for several years without fading.

Cheap vinyl banner printing does not have to mean the advertising will not be effective or outlast the season.  Vinyl banners with custom lettering are efficient attention grabbers that speak volumes in just a few words.  These simple banners are found in every facet of the community, and deliver the best advertising per dollar spent.

Some of the most common places to find a custom printed vinyl banner are:

-Team sports, whether youth, company, or semi-professional.
-Advertising for retail stores; sidewalk sales, etc.
-Trade shows or outdoor fairs and festivals.  Banners are a great way to showcase a product or company name.
-Schools, especially colleges that announce important dates on large vinyl banners.

Silk screen printing is another type of printed vinyl banner, which is often ordered in large batches to get bulk pricing discounts.  Silk screening is still an excellent way to get print quality that yields outstanding detailed results.  Silk screened banners tend to be of a thinner vinyl fabric, which is still resistant to harsh weather conditions.  So long as the banner has hemmed edges and well-attached grommets, it will last for years.

Over-size vinyl banners are commonly seen in outdoor locations like billboards, event halls, and museums and sports fields.  They require special considerations before ordering, and extra care has to be taken to print them according to spec.  Before placing an order for a billboard-sized vinyl banner, consider the most effective location for the advertisement or announcement.  Decide on the length of time the banner will be at this location.  Banners for long term use outdoors do very well when made from Dura-Tuf, a heavy vinyl backed with nylon for extra strength.  Any size outdoor vinyl banner can be made, with convincing image quality that resists being faded by the sun.

How to Choose

Custom vinyl banner printing businesses have an extensive range of products.  To determine which vinyl banner is right for your needs, answer the following questions:

-What number of banners is needed?
The methods of printing vinyl banners have differing printing costs.  If the only banners needed are a handful of lettering-only advertisements, a cheaper method will be used than if there is a need for high resolution imagery on the banner.  For large numbers of high quality imagery, silk screening is the most cost effective way of printing.

-Simple lettering or detailed graphics?
A clear example of the effect graphics can have on the printing process is to look at how complex artwork cannot be reproduced properly with typical vinyl banner equipment.  For best results, vector-based artwork needs to be submitted to the printer to illicit the intricate colors of the design through digital printing.

-How durable does the banner need to be?

Most vinyl banner printing equipment yields two types of banners:  The QS-XLT banner, which is a good choice for indoor installations of high digital color quality; or the Dura-Tuf banner, which is intended to withstand harsh weather and high winds for years outdoors.  When the banner is going to be replaced every few months, or up to a year, the QS-XLT will resist fading and weather just fine.  Permanent installations that will be primarily outdoors, should be printed on Dura-Tuf vinyl banner material.

-What are the measurements of the banner?

The size of the banner has to be weighed in against the printing choices available.  Although a certain image quality is always maintained, billboard size banners necessitate a different printer to accommodate them.  This is usually anything over 50″ inches.  Professional quality high resolution digital can be done on vinyl banner printing equipment in sizes up to 52″ inches.  Again, this is the best choice for detailed graphics and artwork when image quality counts.

A printed vinyl banner, whether it is silk-screened, or digitally printed, is generally one of the best advertising values for the money spent.  Choose custom lettering-only banners for a simple and powerful message, or keep people staring at your banner when you have a striking image digitally printed on it.  When the banner is installed with proper tension onto a sturdy support structure, the final choice will result in years worth of quality advertising for any location, at a great price.
